Texans Gamer: They briefly found it, and then it was taken

The end of Tank Dell's year is the end of most rational hope for this season

Texans Gamer: They briefly found it, and then it was taken

Can the Texans win the Super Bowl this year? In a way, sure. They could win four ugly games in a row against good teams with their best defensive foot forward. They are literally guaranteed to make the playoffs and have a home playoff game. Nothing can change that now, no matter how tired you are of watching them.

But can the Texans win the Super Bowl? This game was a large glaring sign that says “no.” Because they did look better on offense than they had since they lost Stefon Diggs. Despite Bobby Slowik’s best efforts to screen the Texans out of the game, and despite the run game’s inability to do much positive on a down-to-down basis, the Texans converted third downs. The main reason they did that? Tank Dell looked healthy. His cuts were crisp, he was explosive as a punt returner, and he was handily beating Chiefs corners outside.

And then it was over:

Finally hooking up with Dell for his first deep touchdown of the season, C.J. Stroud then immediately burst into tears as his teammate was stretchered off in an ambulance. This isn’t just a season-altering injury, it’s a franchise-altering injury. Dell has now missed portions of both his seasons in the NFL with severe injuries. He’s staying overnight in Kansas City in the hospital. I will be so thrilled if he comes back as the same player in 2026, but at this point I am holding out little hope that he’ll be playing in 2025.
