MNF: The Jets ditch Hackett and look more functional, but come up short
The day the Bills won the division?

The Jets fired (sorry, “demoted”) Nathaniel Hackett as offensive playcaller, let Todd Downing have a crack at it, and immediately looked much more interesting on offense. Aaron Rodgers didn’t throw for 300 yards, but he came pretty close! New York was both lucky and unlucky in this game — lucky in the sense that a 52-yard Hail Mary to Allen Lazard cooked the numbers a little bit, but unlucky because they missed two field goals and outgained the Bills 6.7 yards per play to 6.0 and lost.
Of course, the most heartening part for the Jets is that they were able to run on the Bills to the tune of 5.8 yards per attempt. It was more boom-and-bust than consistent gains as Breece Hall settled down in the second half, but the run designs looked better. The Jets used pre-snap motion much more, picking up 7.7 yards per play when using it per NFL Pro.
